In a remarkable display of poise and dominance, Angel City clamped down league leaders North Carolina Courage, 2-1 in the ongoing National Women’s Soccer League at their home turf at BMO stadium here in Los Angeles California.
Missing its key players to international duty for the upcoming FIFA Women’s World Cup, Angel City FC never wavered, dismantling North Carolina’s defense with crisp passing and midfield control resulting in 21 shots to North Carolina’s nine attempts.
North Carolina opened the scoring in the 15th minute with a Brianna Pinto goal off a quick counter attack that left the Angel City’s defense flat footed.
However, the lead lasted for only three minutes as Angel City went back to work and followed their game plan rattling North Carolina’s defense in every possession, and finally getting their reward in the 18th minute off a Savannah McCaskill goal.
In the 2nd half, North Carolina made some key adjustments that gave them 54% ball possession but it was too late to gain momentum as Angel City, rallied by their boisterous crowd, sealed the game off an own goal from North Carolina’s captain Kaleigh Kurtz.
After the huge win, Angel City moved past to 10th place keeping their hopes alive and will play the Portland Thorns on their next game at home.
