They created a chance early in the 3rd minute as Jasmyne Spencer had a shot on target saved by Thorns GK Mackenzie Arnold. A short pass from ACFC MF Meggie Dougherty Howard allowed striker Alyssa Thompson on the wing to sprint and create some space in the 10th minute. The number one overall pick in the 2023 NWSL wasted no time in the penalty box as she fired the ball in the near post beating Thorns GK Mackenzie Arnold. The goal was Alyssa Thompson's fifth of the season and the ninth goal of her NWSL career. Six of those goals were scored inside the 10th minute mark. The second half tells a different story as a more proactive Portland Thorns took on the pitch. Morgan Weaver, in her first game back from her injury last May 1, leveled the scoreline 1-1 in the 48'. Then on the 64', midfielder Olivia Moultrie put the Thorns ahead 2-1 with a goal off a cross from defender Kelli Hubly. ACFC remained composed on their attack despite losing momentum and the lead. Their perseverance paid off in the 76' after astute fullback Jasmyne Spencer lofted a cross in the box to a charging Claire Emslie to even the scoreline 2-2 with a wonderful volley. The goal is the Scottish international's 7th of the season and her 12th NWSL goal since joining Angel City FC in 2022. The draw puts Angel City FC in 10th place in the NWSL standings. They remain three points behind Bay FC and Racing Louisville for playoff contention. Angel City FC will play the Washington Spirit on Friday, September 27. The game will be broadcasted live on Prime Video starting at 7PM PST.

But after reshuffling much of its line up each game to try and find the winning combination, it looks as though coach Becki tweed and company found the perfect mix as ACFC escaped a 3-2 thriller over Racing Louisville on Wednesday night here in Los Angeles. Kennedy Fuller celebrates with Madison Curry after scoring her first NWSL goal. Photo by Angel City FC ACFC played a high paced and fun first half as it opened with two goals with the first one coming from its 17-year-old midfielder Kennedy Fuller in the 17th minute. A short pass from defender Madison Curry inside the box was well received by Fuller who perfectly placed the ball off Racing Louisville GK Katie Lund's reach. With the ball much in their possession, ACFC found the back of the net again in the 32' from a set piece orchestrated by Merrit Matthias. The seasoned defender directed the ball into the penalty box fray for Rocky Rodriguez to pounce. Racing Louisville put themselves back in the game after defender Megan Reid was called for a questionable foul inside the penalty box. USWNT member midfielder Taylor Flint converted calmly and without hesitation in the 41'. A rejuvenated Racing Louisville kicked off the 2nd half pushing ACFC on the defensive end. The equalizer came after a cross from striker Emma Sears on the right-hand side gave defender Carson Pickett enough space to beat ACFC GK Didi Haracic with a sweet shot in the 64'.
