With just 22 days to go until the new FIFA Club World Cup gets underway, the FIFA Communications team would like to share interviews with players who will likely have a major impact on the tournament. We will also provide members of the media with other interesting material, which will help you with your reporting as the tournament draws ever closer, such as digital assets and information about accreditation and stadium access. 

 

Sergio Ramos – CF Monterrey (Mexico)


One of the greatest defenders of his era, CF Monterrey’s Sergio Ramos says the FIFA Club World Cup is, “a great opportunity for clubs that haven’t had the chance to show themselves,” adding that his club team are approaching the competition with “a lot of hunger.”


The side from Mexico play all their group stage games in Los Angeles and kick-off their campaign against FC Internazionale Milano (Italy). A tie against CA River Plate (Argentina) follows, before their final group sees them come up against Urawa Red Diamonds (Japan)

Antoine Griezmann – Atlético de Madrid (Spain)


Atlético de Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann can’t wait for the competition to get underway, saying, “It’s an honour for me and the club to be part of it.” Although firmly concentrating on the task ahead on the soccer pitch, being a big fan of the NBA, the Frenchman is keen to catch-up with basketball legend LeBron James while he’s on the west coast: “We're playing two games in Los Angeles, at the Rose Bowl [Stadium]. He might come, he's invited.”


The side from the Spanish capital play their opening group stage match in Los Angeles against Paris Saint-Germain (France), before heading to Seattle, where they take on local outfit, the Seattle Sounders (USA). Atlético conclude the group stage in Los Angeles against Botafogo (Brazil).

Enzo Maresca – Chelsea FC


Chelsea FC coach Enzo Maresca believes it’s “fantastic motivation” to try to become the first team to win the new FIFA Club World Cup, while adding that he is no doubt the tournament, “will be a great occasion.”


The side from London start their FIFA Club World Cup campaign in Atlanta, where they play the winner of the play-in, between US side Los Angeles FC and Mexican powerhouse Club América, which takes place on May 31. A mouthwatering encounter against Brazilian giants CR Flamengo follows in Philadelphia, and Chelsea remain in Philadelphia for the final group stage match against Tunisian outfit Espérance.
