Highlights from the NBA's YT channel
A confident Anthony Edwards boldly declared after the Minnesota Timberwolves oust the Denver Nuggets last Sunday on National TV. "My matchup going to be Kyrie, that's going to be fun. We're going to see what I can do vs him."
That probably was the only push the Dallas Mavericks' guard Kyrie Irving needed as he waxed hot in the first half leading all scorers with 24 points.
The future hall of famer was huge in Game 1. He finished the game with 30 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists on 12 of 23 shooting as the Dallas Mavericks defeated the Minnesota Timberwolves on the road, 108-105.
And when Irving's fire decided to cool off, the other half in Dallas' 1-2 punch sealed the game for the visitors. Luka Doncic took over in the second half to score 33 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists.
If you are a numbers person that pays attention to the stats sheet, you'll notice that the Luka-Kyrie combo scored or assisted on 88 of the Maverick's 108 points.
Anthony Edwards, who was scoreless in the third quarter, finished with 19 points, 11 boards and 8 assists. Exhausted, Edwards turned the ball over three times, missed 10 of his 16 attempts from the field and was 5 of 12 from three-point range.
Sitting with the TNT crew post-game and asked what the win meant to him and his team, a nonchalant Kyrie Irving responded, "In about 30 minutes it won't mean anything."
