  • Clippers Show Promise in Home Opener Loss to Suns

Game Highlights from Clippers YT Channel News broke prior to tipoff that Kawhi Leonard will be sidelined for weeks due to his ongoing knee issues. But that didn't faze the die-hard fans one bit. They still showed up in full force at the Clippers' new home - The Intuit Dome. Coming in short on firepower against the Phoenix Suns' BIG 3 of Kevin Durant, Bradley Beal, and Devin Booker, the Clippers fought back from a 14-point deficit in the first half but ultimately lost in an overtime battle, with the Suns emerging victorious 116-113. James Harden had a near triple double game, 29 points, 12 rebounds and 8 assists. Harden tried to do everything for the Clips but looked spent on crucial moments. Center Ivica Zubac also came through with 21 points for the home team. Post game, Harden took accountability stating: "Individually for me, I got to play way better, you know what I mean? I think it was just having that week off, getting adjusted to the pace of the game. All of the above. Shooting the ball well, something that I can control, taking better shots. … And then just turning the ball over. Not just getting a quality shot possession by possession. … My play has to be a lot better.” Kevin Durant led Phoenix with 25 points, 7 rebounds and 3 steals while Bradley Beal had 24 points and Devin Booker added 15 before fouling out in regulation. The Clippers travel next to Denver and Golden State for their next two games. They will then return home for a back-to-back beginning October 30 and October 31. It was one of those miserable nights when the Clippers superstars just don't pop. Paul George, Russel Westbrook and James Harden seem to play with blindfolds on and could not sink a shot, even when left open. Against an intense, physical Dallas defense employed on them, Westbrook, Harden and George combined to shoot 8 of 36, including 3-of-13 from 3-point range. The Slovenian superstar tallied 35 points, seven rebounds and 10 assists while his co-star Kyrie Irving logged 14 points and six assists. Former slam dunk champion Derrick Jones Jr. remains to be a menace for the Clippers offense as he blocked three shots and forced the players he is guarding to a turnover or a miss. The Mavericks now lead the series 3-2 with homecourt advantage in their favor. Dončić and company will have a chance to close out the series in Game 6 in Dallas on Friday (6:30 p.m. PST, ESPN) (Photos by Bryan Boado @ Tangent Zine)
